Someone asked me the other day in an e-mail… “What would $20 USD buy where you live?” Someone else told me, “I would like to send something, but the best I could do is $10 a month”. He felt that a small gift could not do any good, that he would have to send some thing larger…

Here is a copy of the answer I sent back too him.

You asked what $20.00 would buy, and how so little could help. To some in the states it’s a stop at Taco Bell or McDonald’s. It’s a six pack or a few packages of cigarettes or four cups of Starbucks coffee.

But to put it into perspective here are some ideas of what $20.00 could buy here in Sderot.

1bag of Diapers – A pack of baby wipes- a liter of milk or…
A loaf of bread – 3 Kg of chicken wings (36 pieces) 1 whole chicken or…
A can of baby formula or…
Enough sandwich meat for a week, a loaf of bread, 1 Kg of tomatoes and cucumbers 1 Bag potato chips, 1.5 Lt. cola 2Kg oranges.

It is strange that you ask me what twenty dollars will buy. I have felt for a long time that if Hope For Sderot could find two thousand people who would give just those twenty dollars, we would be able to feed twice the amount of people we feed today or help those we feed even more. But how does one find those two thousand good people and convince them to do that?

Anyway this should give you some idea of what twenty dollars will buy. If you have some idea of how to find 2000 or more people who really do love the Jewish people the way they say they do, please let me know where they are.

We have tried over the past four years not to ask for money and for the most part we have not. We try to write stories about what we are doing, but we need your help. You can help us by clicking here… Thank you in advance for you generosity, prayers and love.
