Discover our history and commitment to the people of Sderot, meeting the needs as best we can to a community that has been traumatized since 2002
Hope For Sderot was founded in August 2008 as a humanitarian aid organization helping those who had been injured by the previous eight years and over 5000 Kassam rocket attacks from Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Since then, we have expanded our mission and goals.
Hope For Sderot was founded just 4 months before “Operation Cast Lead”, the first Gaza war (December 27, 2008). There were concerns that this war would affect our very first public event, our very first Hanukkah party.
With dignity and respect, we serve the residents of Sderot. It is our hope and goal to bring a Hope For Sderot that says, there are people all around the world who stand by and with you.
The journey
Sderot’s A city of Resilience
We have been given names like “rocket city” and “The bomb shelter capital of the world. It is hard to keep track of how many Kasam rockets have been fired at us, but it has to be in the 30,000 range.
They claim we all suffer from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), but that is not the case. If we suffer from anything, it is ADSD (accumulative traumatic stress disorder). There is NOTHING “post” about it… It's been going on for 25 years.
In light of the twenty-five years of terrorist attacks, life goes on. Young people still get married, new babies are born, kids still go to school, still have birthday parties, celebrate all the holydays in Torah, and of course Shabbat each week.
We walk down the street, go to work, go to school, or go shopping, always keeping in mind that the present calm could end any second with the “Tseva Adom” alarm sounding, and we would have fifteen seconds to find shelter.
When you live under these circumstances, the values of life change. Friends and family become more important than “stuff.” I have always said… “Sderot is a wonderful place to live. The only downside to living here is… we have bad neighbors!

From serving those who had been injured by terrorist attacks, we expanded our support to the elderly. Single mothers, the working poor, and hungry school children.
