Independence Day… For a nation and a people that are governed by their G-D it should be called “Dependence Day”; a day to remember and reflect on just who is our defense, our protector and our provider.

Torah, the Bible tells us, “I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their G-D.” “And the L-RD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.” “For the L-RD will go before you, and the G-D of Israel will be your rear guard.”

With words like these and promises from G-D like this, it seems you would want to be dependent on G-D and the last thing you would want to be would be independent.

For Israel to be able to celebrate 63 years as a reborn Jewish nation is something only G-D could bring about. Yes it takes solder and war machinery but, “Unless the L-RD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the L-RD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.”

Why does Israel have the ability to celebrate today? Because G-D is faithful to His word even when we are not faithful to Him. What do we celebrate; the lives lost in this quest for our freedom or our national pride?

The one thing and the central thing to our celebration should be our G-D. He has been and always will be our shield, our defense, our refuge, our buckler, our sword, our protector. Without Him we can not stand up to the rest of the world, but with G-D… as long as we remember the battle is the L-RD’s … Is there anything too hard for Him?

Over and over again in His word He has said there will always be a Jewish

people and we will possess the Land He gave us. These promises of G-D are irrevocable and when you consider He says that He values His word more than His name you have quite the rock to stand on!

Today is a bitter sweet day for me. The joy of the day is in Ha’Shem, the one who has made us to stand after all these years. It is in Him we find our protection under His wings. As we rejoice and celebrate our independence; I have to wonder, and this is where the bitterness is tasted…why isn’t the name of our L-RD our G-D being publicly blessed for His faithfulness, especially on this day ?

We as a nation have some very big “giants” facing us from every side and we are in need our Meshach. In the fullness of time He will come, but until then we need a leader like David, a man that will proclaim to the nations of the world the name of our G-D. To our people he would remind us that our land needs healing and that the solution to our problems will only be found in Ha’Shem.

2 Chronicles 7:14 should be a reminder to all of us and a call to turn back to Ha’Shem. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
If Passover was our deliverance, our day of freedom shouldn’t today “Independence Day”, be a day we reestablish and reaffirm “Israel IS one nation under G-D”?
