Aloniodeet was 10 when the Germans came to her home town in Northern Romania. Her mother and father and three brothers were forced to march to USSR.  It took a full month to get there.  Once there, they were put in a barn to sleep with the cows and pigs.  During the day they were forced to work on the farm.  Her father was taken to be killed in the gas chambers.  The rest of the family was always hungry and diseased with typhoid.   It would be three and a half years before the war was over, and they got back to Romania.

In 1944, this fourteen year old courageous young lady decided to
move to Israel.  Aloniodeet came to Israel by herself by train through Turkey, Syria and Lebanon to live on a kibbutz.  She was excited to “belong to Israel” and made many friends on various kibbutzim, and later a group of friends moved to start their own kibbutz.

In 1964, Aloniodeet came to Sderot when it was no more than barren land.  No stores or markets, no running water or electricity; it was just a place that people like her wanted to call home. She was married here in Sderot and had three daughters and now has three granddaughters.

Aloniodeet is recognized by the state of Israel as a Holocaust survivor; although, there were few benefits for her. She asked for nothing but help in getting her apartment fixed.  We were asked by her social worker if we could come and visit her and see if we could help her as the state no longer has the funds to help. Aloniodeet lives on the third floor of a four story building. The apartment above her has had plumbing problems for some time. The owner of the upstairs apartment was not willing to fix the problem until recently when the social worker stepped in to help. He began repairs just last week.

What we found were three rooms with black mold all over the walls and ceiling and other rooms with the plaster falling off. It was not a hard decision to make. We told her that as soon as the repairs were completed upstairs, we would come back and start making the needed repairs to her apartment.

It will be a few weeks before repairs begin… Just enough time for one of our readers, someone just like you, to come and help with the painting and wall patching. It you are interested you can contact us at www.hopeforsderot.com.

We have a list of home repairs that is growing. Some home repairs are for victims of Kassam rocket attacks and some are for older people who are disabled and just can not afford to have the work done. If you are a tile setter, finish carpenter, plasterer or a painter and would like to be a blessing to some wonderful people (G-D’s chosen), contact us and we will be more than happy to fill you in on the needs and the scope of jobs.
