Avi is one of the social workers we work with here in Sderot. He came to us yesterday asking if it would be possible to help a lady with four kids. It seems her husband got in trouble with the law and had spent the past three years in prison. During his time in prison he fell behind on child support from a prior marriage.

Things for Haget have been hard for the past three years, especially as a single parent their four children who range in age from two to thirteen. Three months ago her husband was released from prison after serving his time. He was able to find a job and has been working ever since. Because he fell behind in his child support payments while in jail the state has garnished his wages until he catches up on the money he owes.

When Avi visited their home earlier on Thursday he found nothing, I mean nothing in the refrigerator, so he came to us asking if we could give her two bags of food. We told Avi to send Haget to us and we will give them to her. He called her right then and there and within twenty minutes she and her youngest daughter were sitting in our office relating her story to us.

I told Eti, who was translating for me, to tell Haget to just go shopping and whatever she needed from our shelves, to just put it on the table and we would pack it up for her. Laundry and dish soap, tooth paste, cereal, flour, sugar, toilet paper, tuna, canned goods and dry goods lined the table. We were able to do this because over the past year and a half we have tried to keep a reserve of items for just a time as this and because of the generosity of The Joshua Fund.

We were also able to help her with some milk and bread money, thanks to those of you who support us as well.

Avi was blessed, Haget was blessed, and one of our volunteers was in tears because of the generosity and love we were able to show to Haget. Avi came back to say thank you and that we made him and Haget happy. I told him I am glad you are both happy but we do what we do to please G-D and all thanks must go to Him for His faithfulness, His provision and for His love He shows us.

It is through your support and sacrifice that G-D provides the opportunity for us to help people like Haget and for you to be a part of this as well. To you, who have supported Hope For Sderot, Thank you! To those who would like to be part of what we do you can click here to do just that.
