“Then she called the name of the L-RD who spoke to her, You–Are–the–God–Who–Sees; for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”

Hagar wasn’t a Jew, she was the Egyptian handmaid of the barren Sarai who gave Hagar to Abraham, to be his wife to father the son she (Sarai) thought the L-RD promised but restrained her from bearing; but that was not the plan of G-D, and Ishmael was not the promised seed.

The angel of Ha’Shem came to Hagar after she conceived
and tried to flee from Sarai. Hagar called the name of the L-rd that spoke to her and said “You–Are–the–God–Who–Sees” or “El Roi” (The G-D who sees). El Roi saw Hagar when she was on the edge of making the wilderness journey back to Egypt. She was going to go back home and yet G-D saw this handmaiden in her darkest hour, in her time of need on her way back to her old life. He turned her around and brought her back.

Where are you today? Where are we today? Are we on our way back to a life without the L-RD G-D of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? Do we think He has abandoned us; that we have crossed that line in the sand, and He is all done with us? To you and to me, to us, He is El Roi (the G-D who sees). Even though we cannot see G-D in our present condition or our present circumstances, He IS El Roi, The G-D who sees us.

Maybe you have never walked with Ha’Shem in the cool of the evening as Adam once did. Maybe, you don’t know He loves you, or that His mercy is greater than His judgment for you. Maybe, you have never listened to that still small voice of a loving Father who sees you and is calling to you, just like He did to Adam… “Adam where are you?” Maybe you have never read the words of Isaiah 44:21, 22…

“Remember these, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, and like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”
