A life redeemed by G-D is a lot like the life of “LG”, a kitten that has come to live with me; let me explain.

Most cats here in Sderot are strays. They live outside, sleep outside and eat out of trash cans; pretty much like the lives of people who do not love their L-RD G-D. Oh they think life is good because there is a cardboard box to sleep in and the food they got out of the trash is tasty but they don’t know what they are missing in life. I have never been able to come close enough to pet one until the other day.

As I came home from work I noticed this kitten lying in some leaves, near the steps that lead to my apartment. I thought I would give it a try and see if she would let me pet her or would she just run away because she was afraid of me… again much like us and G-D. He comes to us to touch our hearts, to show us His love and because we are afraid that He will want something from us or maybe we have done so many things wrong in our lives, we are afraid to allow Him to touch our lives.

Well back to “LG,” not only did she let me pet her but she also let me pick her up. I petted her for a while and went up stairs to get her some leftover chicken I had. As I fed her the other cats that would not come close to me watched me feed her. When we allow G-D to pick us up and to love us we find then and only then the fulfillment we have been looking for.

After a few days of feeding her and petting her I picked her up and asked her if she wanted to come home with me… there was no answer just a trusting purr. I brought her home, gave her some more chicken, got her litter box set up and she spent the night in a warm house and not outside in the rain. David put it this way “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

As I was getting ready to feed her I took up her food bowl to wash it out. The leftover food I threw in the trash can and I fed her whatever I was eating that night. It dawned on me as I took the trash out; the food she would have eaten out of the trash a week earlier is now food for other cats and now she eats from the oven or stove. Again like our L-RD “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever”.

She likes to sit and watch as I work on the computer. She just knows that she can get that curser. As I type she walks on the keyboard deleting, adding, and changing what I’m typing. I now type with one hand as I hold her with the other. She wants to be helpful I’m sure. She wants to be close and now desires the love she never knew existed before she let me pick her up that day.

G-D allows me to help in His divine plan but all too often, like “LG”, I step on the wrong keys, causing more damage than good, yet He still picks me up and loves me. I have to admit the greatest day in my life was the day I allowed G-D to pick me up; “He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps”.
